Outreach Events

At the Pajama Factory, we believe that art – in all of its many forms – is a tool to shape society. Art can act as a catalyst for community development, provide a means for constructive societal engagement, animate a space, spark reflection, encourage dialogues, and have an influence over issues and trends. Because of this, we aim to cultivate a community where artists are given the space to develop their practice, expand their networks, and experiment together, building a creative, collaborative future.

One of the ways we hope to achieve this is through our Outreach Events. All of these events are FREE to the public. We hope to see you there.

Master Class with Sheilagh Weymouth

TIME: 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Location: Community Room, 1307 Park Ave (Btwn Rose St & Park Ave)

Multiple award winning NYC actress and acting coach is offering a class in self-expression. This is a rare opportunity for anyone – performer or not – to experience a deeper authenticity with whatever and however they want to express as artists. Pssst, You… you’re an artist, BTW. Surprise!

Bring some text (written word) of one minute or less, memorized. Don’t worry, you’ll get help when you inevitably forget your words. And make sure you love the text. You don’t have to know why, just that there’s something about it you love. And then we’ll work! Safe yet daring, and scary, too … but you’ll discover it’s not really scary. It’s just human. Join the club!

Using music and other sources, we will draw out the language behind our ordinary everyday language, finding out what we may be thinking at the back of everything else. No writing experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome

Plein Air Drawing as Diary

time: 1:00 – 2:00 pm

LOCATION: PJF COURTYARD, 1307 PARK AVE (BTWN ROSE ST & PARK AVE)

Artist, Sophie Najjar, will host a plein air session that is open in terms of media. Bring whatever materials that you prefer to draw with. We will engage with the notion of plein air as a more diaristic means of research, practice, meditation, and documentation, as opposed to a rigid understanding of formal landscape painting. This will be an opportunity to learn about what we can glean from drawing from life, as opposed to photographs, and how we can improve our understanding of observation, spaces, composition, ephemerality, and perfection.
